Unit 3: (6GR03) Designing for the Future (40% of A2). In this unit, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of modern design and manufacturing practices and contemporary design issues. You, the modern designer must have a good working knowledge of the use of ICT and systems and control technology in the design and manufacture of products. You must also be aware of the important contributions of designers from the past which may provide inspiration for future design.
Unit 4: (6GR04) Commercial Design (60% of A2). You have the opportunity at A2 Level to have a full design and make activity, offering you the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competencies you have gained from your AS studies. This unit will allow you to expand further your skills and work in a more commercial and professional manner.
Graphic products has two clearly defined pathways, either ‘conceptual design’ or the built environment. You will have the opportunity to choose your own direction which will define the outcome. This could be aimed towards your future career paths and to help in some cases become part of your portfolio for future interviews.
A key element of this course is your practical coursework and you will be encouraged by you teachers to pursue an area of interest relevant to your future career path.
Unit 3: Designing for the Future (40% of A2). This is a 2 hour externally assessed written examination in June and will consist of short - answer and extended writing type questions.
Unit 4: Commercial Design (60% of A2 course). A major coursework unit which will involve both a written and practical element submitted in April for internal assessment which is moderated externally.
