KEY FEATURES OF THE COURSE:

  • An opportunity to study two diverse areas of History
  • One piece of year 13 coursework
  • AS and A level qualifications are separate enabling student who continue to year 13 to achieve an A level as well as an AS qualification
  • The content covered in year 13 continues along the same theme as year 12 but over a longer chronological time period and in more detail.

  • Unit 1: Breadth Study. The Tudors. England. 1485 ‐ 1603 The consolidation of power 1485 ‐ 1547
  • Unit 2: Depth Study Revolution and dictatorship: Russia and the Soviet Union 1917 ‐ 1953 The Russian Revolution and the Rise of Stalin 1917 ‐ 1929

  • Unit 1 The Tudors. England 1485 ‐ 1603 Triumph and turmoil 1547 ‐ 1603
  • Unit 2 Revolution and dictatorship: Russia and the Soviet Union 1917 ‐ 1953 Stalin’s rule 1924 ‐ 1953
  • Unit 3. Historical Investigations coursework . The Changing Nature of Warfare 1812 ‐ 1918

Assessment

TYPE OF ASSESSMENT IN YEAR 12 

  • Unit 1 1 hour 30 minutes exam 50%
  • Unit 2 1 hour 30 minutes exam 50%

TYPE OF ASSESSMENT IN YEAR 13

  • Unit 1 2 and a half hour written exam 40%
  • Unit 2 2 and a half hour written exam 40%
  • Unit 3 3,000 ‐ 3,500 word piece of coursework 20%
