Government and Politics A Level at Carre's Grammar School
AIMS OF THE COURSE
• Develop a critical awareness of the nature of politics and the relationship between political ideas, institutions and processes;
• Acquire knowledge and understanding of the structures of authority and power within the political system of the UK, and how these may differ from those of other political systems;
• Acquire knowledge and informed understanding of the rights and responsibilities of the individual;
• Encourage an interest in, and engagement with, contemporary politics.
The minimum entry requirements for academic level 3 study apply. A grade 5 in English is also required, and it is recommended that applicants have studied at least one other essay based subject, such as history.
Three 2-hour exams on the above topics, containing a mixture of medium-length ‘explain’ and essay style questions.
