Art & Design: Fine Art (Linear) AQA A Level at Cotham School
If you have loved studying art and design at GCSE or BTEC, are motivated to improve, enjoy exploring and experimenting, are curious and like talking about art, then this is the course for you. You will explore working with a broad range of media, including traditional and new media and technologies. You will extend your knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary and historical art through looking at the work of past societies, cultures and key individuals and use this knowledge to develop your own investigative work.
What will I learn?
You will learn technical skills and how to manage a broad range of media and materials through a variety of practical workshops and across disciplines, such as drawing and painting, printmaking, sculpture and installation and photography. An emphasis on critical and contextual studies forms an important part of the course. You will learn to develop your ideas with independence and to construct a portfolio of work that demonstrates your knowledge, skill and understanding.
What learning and teaching methods will be used?
You will learn through a variety of practical workshops and demonstrations. You will be given contextual tasks to build your knowledge or art practice. You will be given one to one support during lessons and work with your peers to discuss your ideas and receive suggestions on how to develop your work and make progress. We visit gallery exhibitions and use our local environment to extend skills and conduct research.
NBP16C level 3 entry requirements, including grade 4 or above at GCSE/BTEC in art and design or fine art.
Personal investigation – 60%
Externally set assignment – 40%
Pursuing A level art will provide you with the experience you need to move on to an art foundation course or equivalent, all of which will allow you to embark on a degree course in your chosen field.
