OCR Level 3 Diploma: Art & Design at Loughborough College

Course description

In the first year of your studies you will gain a broad skills base in 2D, 3D and Digital/Photographic art forms. You will develop and refine your creative ideas towards creating final outcomes. You will often be working from a brief or commission and will work with lecturers to apply your interests and skills to meet the demands of the brief.

You will have access to multiple studio spaces and industry standard photographic and digital technology. In your second year you will build upon your skills and explore techniques such as print making, fine art and design. Throughout your studies your work will be regularly exhibited and in the second year you will be involved in planning, installing and running your own exhibition

Assessment will be ongoing through assignments set throughout the year. You will be creating assignment evidence in portfolios both physically and digitally. You will also be assessed through your process work, annotation, research and final outcomes. Your creative and investigative work throughout will be assessed. Staff will modify assessment evidence type in discussion with you to ensure that you have the best opportunity to succeed. Staff will discuss with you any additional assessment support that you may require and strive to ensure that all students are able to demonstrate their best work in all assessments

Entry requirements

Students should achieve 5 GCSE’s or equivalent at Grade at C/4 or above including English (and ideally Maths). Students can enrol on this qualification from external or internal routes. Progression from Level 2 NQF internally will require successful completion at Merit standard and improvement in Maths &/or English. Successful students can progress to HE either internally or externally
