Music (Performance) BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Coulsdon Sixth Form College
The Level 3 Diploma in Music (Performance) course is suitable for all instrumentalists or vocalists who have some proficiency and a passion to develop as a performer. The course broadens students' experience and skills in solo and ensemble performing and includes workshops in improvisation and other techniques associated with live performance. Any musical style is suitable to perform, and the course includes training in listening and critical review. Confidence in some form of musical literacy skills is helpful although not essential. Students should be creative and willing to be involved with the musical activities of the Department. Specialist units include, for example, the Sound and Music Industry which will give students a good grounding in the inner workings of the Music business (including its struture, how to get freelance work and record deals).

Students will do well on the course if they are:
- Natural performers – perhaps already in a band
- Fascinated by the workings of the music world in general
- Team players
- Keen to develop their instrumental or vocal skills to a high level
Students should be enthusiastic performers, creative improvisers, active listeners, possess good personal organisation skills and have high levels of commitment.
The course is assessed by 100% coursework, including portfolios, journals, audio and video evidence, presentations, accounts and evaluations.
