Performing Arts: Musical Theatre Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate at Ashfield School
This course is a chance to explore Musical Theatre through the in depth study of Drama, Music and Dance. You will be taught by subject specialists and will get the chance to learn about how the professional industry operates.
UNIT 1: Learners investigate the work of performing arts practitioners and develop critical analysis skills and contextual understanding of how practitioners communicate themes in their work.
UNIT 2: Learners explore technical performance skills with a focus on developing and demonstrating skills and techniques in at least two performance styles within a selected discipline.
UNIT 3: Learners create/devise a piece of work as a company. This work does not have to be a fully completed piece of work (for example; the idea might be to create a two hour show but students only need to show 20 mins!)
UNIT 27: Learners are required to understand the key features of musical theatre, to know practical skills to perform musical theatre, to create a specific performance piece (for example a whole musical) and to write on going log books of this process and skills developed.
Five or more A*-C grades or equivalent.
Units 2 and 27 are written and assessed by the centre and submitted as coursework. Unit 1 and 3 are set and marked by Pearsons and completed in controlled conditions.
Career prospects are excellent, with the possibility of continuing your studies at University. Typical employment prospects include work in the Performing Arts industry or businesses that will require confidence, personable skills and commitment.
