Physics A level at Burntwood School

Course description

As learners progress through this new course they will build on their knowledge of the laws of physics, applying their understanding to solve problems on topics ranging from sub-atomic particles to the entire universe. The content is split into six teaching modules:

• Module 1 – Development of practical skills in physics

• Module 2 – Foundations of physics

• Module 3 – Forces and motion

• Module 4 – Electrons, waves and photons

• Module 5 – Newtonian world and astrophysics

• Module 6 – Particles and medical physics

Entry requirements

At least five grade 9-4 passes at GCSE level. Grade 5 or above in all English and Mathematics GCSEs. Two grade 6s or above in combined science GCSE. If you have studied separate sciences you will need a grade 6 or above in Physics and at least a grade 6 in the other two sciences.

 

Future opportunities

Example degree level subjects include Physics, Medicine, Engineering, Physics and Philosophy, Geophysics, Oceanography. Employment can be in areas such as Engineering and Information Technology, Finance, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Electrical industry, Environmental Science, Medicine, Astronomy and Meteorology.
