Travel and Tourism BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Coulsdon Sixth Form College
This is an interesting and practical course that is directly related to the vibrant, exciting and rapidly expanding Travel and Tourism industry. Students will study a wide range of travel related topics, in practical and work related environments, as the course has been designed to help students acquire the necessary skills and qualifications for a career in the Travel and Tourism industry.
The Diploma course is a two year course that is equivalent to two A Levels. It is ideally suited to anyone who is contemplating a degree and or career in the Travel and Tourism industry.What goes well with this course?
Travel and Tourism goes well with a number of subjects, particularly:
- Modern Foreign Languages
The course covers a wide range of Business units such as Marketing, Customer Service and Human Resources. In other units students will explore specific aspects of the Tourism and Travel industry, for example:
- Visitor Attractions
- UK and Worldwide Tourism
- Cruise Sector
- Working as a holiday, or children's representative in Travel and Tourism
There are some practical units requiring students to work as a team, for example, organising an event or arranging the residential visit in the second year.
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have (or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on a BTEC Level 3 Programme.
Students will enjoy this course if they are able to:
- Complete coursework in many different forms
- Simulate activities such as welcome meetings for tour arrivals
- Engage in practical work such as planning and running a residential trip
- Complete independent research
- Work independently or as part of a team
- Take initiative and have an eye for detail
The course is assessed purely through coursework.
The exam board for this course is Pearson BTEC.
Travel and Tourism students may decide to take up a place at university studying one of a number of degrees related to this subject. Popular degree courses include Event Management, Tourism Management or Hospitality Management.
Other students may opt to gain employment in the Airline Industry, Resort Services, Tourism and Hospitality or Trainee Management posts.
A qualification in Travel and Tourism will help provide students with essential knowledge of the industry and prepare them for Higher Education and employment.
