Performing Arts BTEC Level 2 Award at Coulsdon Sixth Form College
The BTEC Performing Arts level 2 course is a one year study programme that offers a wealth of practical activities, scenarios and independent studies for students. The course helps to inspire students to start thinking about different ways of applying the skills they’ve acquired and bring the content of the units to life. The students will be studying the Acting pathway and on completion of the course they will achieve Level 2 Award in Performing Arts.
Students will study two core units and an optional specialist unit:
- Unit 1: Individual showcase
- Unit 2: Preparation, Performance and Production
- Unit 3: Acting Skills
Unit 1 is externally assessed and using scenarios, students will develop their own potential with a view of implementing plans for their future career. They will use the notion of progression opportunity to prepare work that can be performance, technical, or design-related and present a self-promotional response of their chosen progression opportunity. In unit 2, students will take one or more specific performance or production role(s) and in unit 3 they will master new skills in at least two styles of acting and apply them in their performance.
Two 2 and three 3 grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics minimum Grade 2 or equivalent qualifications (a Pass or higher at BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the GCSE Grades).
Students will also have to attend an audition.
Students will be assessed via the three units. One is externally assessed and two are internally assessed.
The exam board is Pearson.
Students who successfully complete the BTEC Award in Performing Arts and meet the College’s entry criteria may progress onto BTEC level 3 courses (e.g. BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts, Music and/or Media courses).
