## Course description

**AS level:**

**Unit 6667 - FP1 **- Complex numbers; numerical solution of equations; coordinate systems; matrix Algebra; series and proof

*Two units from: *

**Unit 6677 - M1 **- Mathematical models in mechanics; vectors in mechanics; kinematics of a particle moving in a straight line; dynamics of a particle moving in a straight line or plane; statics of a particle; moments

**Unit 6683 - S1 **- Mathematical models in probability and statistics; representation and summary of data; probability; correlation and regression; discrete random variables; discrete distributions; the normal distribution.

**Unit 6689 - D1 **- Sorting algorithms; minimum spanning trees; route inspection; critical path analysis; linear programming; matching problems.

**A2 level**

**Unit 6668 - FP2 **- Inequalities; series; further Complex Numbers; first and second order differential equations; Maclaurin and Taylor series and polar coordinates.

**Unit 6669 - FP3 **- Hyperbolic functions; further coordinate systems; differentiation; integration; vectors and further Matrix Algebra.

*One unit from: *

**Unit 6678 - M2 **- Kinematics of a particle moving in a straight line or plane; centres of mass; work and energy; collisions; statics of rigid bodies.

**Unit 6684 - S2 **- The Binomial and Poisson distributions; continuous random variables; continuous distributions; samples; hypothesis testing.

**Unit 6690 - D2 **- Transportation problems; allocation problems; flows in networks; travelling salesman; game theory; dynamic programming.

## Assessment

**Coursework**:

There is no coursework element to this A level, however students will be expected to do regular exercises to practice the theories that are studied.

**Examinations: 3 modules per year **

3 x 90 minute Further Pure Units

3 x 90 minute Application Units from M1 & M2 or S1 & S2 or D1 & D2 Dependent on AS/A2 Mathematics.
