Art - A Level at Northallerton College

Course description

Emphasising the practical application of art and design in relation to contextual studies, the course is designed to extend the skills and understanding gained at GCSE.

Entry requirements

Entry to the course requires enthusiasm and commitment to developing independent creative skills. Achieving a C grade or above at GCSE is a prerequisite for the course.


The course is delivered through a series of projects which offer scope for individual interpretation and development Projects are practical in nature, demonstrations and examples are used to enhance understanding. Project briefs give a clear structure to each piece of work and guidance is given on a one to one basis throughout Where appropriate field visits are arranged to form a springboard for ideas.

Future opportunities

The course combines well with many subjects, higher and further education opportunities are extensive. The A2 course enables students to build a portfolio for foundation study of art or direct entry into degree level.
