Biology - A Level at Northallerton College
Biology is a popular course, combining well with many other subjects, including arts as well as sciences. It includes many topics which were first introduced at GCSE, but broadens and develops students' understanding to much greater depth. It also introduces a number of new areas and the work in the second year of A level is significantly more challenging than AS.
A minimum of grades BB in GCSE science and 6 in GCSE maths and English.
We use a wide range of strategies for learning including discussion, practical work, model building, group work and problem solving. We aim to convey our enthusiasm for biology to our students.
Higher education opportunities in biology are plentiful. In the past, students have gone on to study medicine, agriculture, animal physiology and nutrition, veterinary science, biochemistry, food science, microbiology, nursing, physiotherapy, genetics and various environmental courses.
