Geography - A Level at Northallerton College
This is a diverse subject which uniquely combines skills from both the arts and the sciences. You will study a wide range of topics which include elements of physical and human geography focussing on the processes operating within and on the earth and in the atmosphere as well as considering people and their activity on our planet Fieldwork is a compulsory element of the course in both years.
Students should have a minimum of a grade B GCSE geography and a minimum of grade 4 in English and grade C in science.
A wide variety of teaching and learning styles are used such as teacher-led lessons, practical fieldwork, group activities and independent research as well as the use of ICT and regular exam practice. The skills and expertise gained in GCSE geography, such as decision making and problem solving are also further developed.
Geography students are amongst the most employable because they develop key skills which employers are looking for. Many students study geography into higher education or combine it with other subjects as a joint honours degree. Others study geography related subjects such as environmental science or town planning.
