Product Design - A Level at Northallerton College

Course description

This qualification equipping students with design skills for the future, encourages creativity and innovation offering progression from GCSE and beyond to HE or various careers. This subject allows students to design, develop, and make either graphically modelled outcomes such as architecture, product concepts or to produce everyday resistant material products such as furniture.

Entry requirements

C GCSE in science, (maths minimum grade 4) and technology or art subjects with an aptitude to model and handle software at this level.

Assessment

The course involves discussion, independent study, practical work, process experience with CAD and CAM, problem-solving, research activities, visits, presentations, interactive board work, virtual design and videos/DVDs and use of the Virtual Learning Environment.

Future opportunities

Combined with 'A' levels in mathematics, arts and physics it is suited to engineering, architecture, industrial and product design degrees. Students who have combined A level design and technology with other A levels have gone on to degrees and HND in architecture, computer studies, business studies, teaching, civil engineering, quantity surveying, furniture manufacture and other areas unconnected with technology.
