Public Services (Vocational) BTEC at Haileybury Turnford School

Course description

A BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma is a vocational, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. This particular course is designed for students who need to re-sit a GCSE in English and/or Maths alongside their Diploma.

It introduces students to the employment area that they are interested in and is equivalent to 1 A level. This means that once students have successfully completed the course they can choose whether to progress to a job or to higher education first.

The course is made up of 12 units, with students studying 3 core units and then a combination of 3 further units for the full qualification.

We aim to make your studies as interesting and as enjoyable as possible. Lecturers use a wide range of different teaching methods including tutor lead sessions, case studies and class/group discussions. In addition, students will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of public service related visits and a programme of guest speakers.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include English Level 4

Students also need to be self-motivated and have a keen interest in a career in the field of public service work

Future opportunities

On successful completion of year 2 you can move onto university or employment. Opportunities are available to gain entry into a wide range of public sector occupations in both the uniformed and non-uniform sectors such as Local Government Administration, Customs and Excise, The Ambulance Service, The Police Service, The Fire Service, Care Work, The Armed Forces, The Military Police, Security or The Prison Service.
