Sports Studies (Vocational) at Haileybury Turnford School

Course description

A Cambridge Technical (CTEC) in Sport Studies is a level 3 coursework and external assessment based subject. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the subject area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career. It can be equivalent to one or two A-level’s which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to look for employment or to go onto higher education.

The Cambridge Technicals Level 3 in Sport and Physical Activity at Haileybury Turnford will last for two years.

Entry requirements

As well as having at least five GCSEs at grades A*-C you will normally need to have at least one of the following:

·A ‘Merit’ in BTEC First Sport or a related subject

·A ‘C’ in GCSE PE

·English level 4


Future opportunities

CTEC’s are valued by employers and higher education (universities and colleges). If you want to look for employment you could work in:

·Sports Centres

·Leisure Centres

·Outdoor Activities Centres

If you decide to go to university or college you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as:

·Sports Studies

·Leisure Management

·Recreation Management

·Teacher training.
