Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Applied Science at North Hertfordshire College

Course description

Our science courses include lots of opportunities for you to get hands on experience of the world of work, including:

  • Work experience with businesses like GSK, AstraZeneca, Airbus, MBDA and Roche
  • Regular trips to science industry employers in Hertfordshire
  • Engagement with guest speakers from businesses like University of Hertfordshire, Stevenage BioScience Catalyst and ENH NHS Trust
  • Opportunities to attend major national events and present research projects to peers and sector experts at major events such as the second annual Health & Science Symposium.

NHC offers the BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science and the Extended Degree in Science.  The courses are ideal for students wishing to enter the science sector, covering biology, chemistry and physics

Course content

To join this course, you’ll need:

Five GCSEs at grade A*-C, including maths, English

and science at grade C or higher; or

A-level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area - plus

maths and English GCSE at grade A*-C, or functional

skills level 2 maths and English qualifications.

 

 

Entry requirements

To join this course, you’ll need:

  • Five GCSEs at grade A*-C including maths, English and science at grade C or higher; or,
  • A level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area - plus maths and English GCSE grade A*-C, or functional skills level 2 maths and English qualifications.

Assessment

This course is assessed through assignments (75%) and

two exams (25%).

There are no tuition fees for students aged 16-18 years.

Having successfully completed this course, you’ll be able

    • The Stevenage Centre, opened in 2003, provides a state-of-the-art learning environment for students, offering the best possible educational and training opportunities for the local community. The main entrance opens up into the Atrium, a large communal space hosting the main reception, a cafeteria and houses a number of student services and social learning facilities. The first and second floors are dedicated learning areas, where students can find classrooms and learning resource centres.

      Classrooms at the Stevenage Centre are equipped with ‘Smart Wall’ technology, helping to provide first class I.T. resources for teaching and learning. The centre also allows space for learning bases, which are dedicated curriculum areas for learners to carry out their studies.
