Beauty Therapy Level 2 Technical Certificate at Wigan & Leigh College

Course description

If you want to specialise within this highly rewarding beauty industry then this course is for you. The knowledge and skills included are highly commercial and taught to a professional level providing excellent employment opportunities. Our commercial salons are open to the public to ensure a realistic working environment this enables learners to develop skills necessary to work with confidence within such a diverse and exciting industry.

Course content

This is an intensive course of study for those wishing to enter the beauty industry, the course content includes: skincare, removing hair using waxing techniques, manicure, pedicure, lash and brow treatments and the application of a range of make-up looks, learners will also study anatomy, physiology, salon reception, and health and safety. As part of your programme of study you will participate in work experience to develop your employability skills.

Entry requirements

GCSE TARIFF

A minimum of 5 A*-D/ 9-3 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English

Assessment

Candidates are assessed by continuous observation of skills and assessment of performance, assignments and written tests.

Future opportunities

Progression to Level 3 Beauty Therapy, Level 3 Nail Technology, Level 3 Spa Therapy, Level 3 Specialist Media Make-up or to employment as an Apprentice.

Further information

Both Image Centres have state-of-the-art facilities offering a realistic working environment. The Leigh centre has a nail studio and luxurious I'spa facilities. All students must purchase a kit and an Image Centre uniform, which must be worn when attending classes.

    • Our Parson's Walk Centre houses a wide range of vocational courses and provides a unique and exciting atmosphere.

      The Centre features the award winning Wheel restaurant, together with other outstanding facilities that provide hands on work experience including the Image Centre, Florist Shop and Travel Shop.

      In addition, our classrooms offer a comfortable and professional working environment which is exemplified by our £20,000 state-of-the-art Apple Mac suite.

      This Centre also houses the College's largest Learning Resource Centre to provide help and support to all students in the use of the library and IT facilities. Our dedicated team of staff are on hand to provide assistance with electronic books and databases, information skills and one-to-one sessions. Laptops, iPads and Samsung tablets are just a selection of the range of facilities available.

      This Centre is completed with our Employment Services team who are here to offer you a personal information, advice and guidance session to identify areas of development and agree goals to set you on your path to gaining employment.
