Travel & Tourism City & Guilds Level 3 Extended Diploma at Wigan & Leigh College

Course description

This two year course is suitable for learners who are focused on gaining an in-depth knowledge of the tourism industry. Successful completion will enable progression onto higher education or employment. The course is designed to provide an insight into the exciting world of travel and tourism students have a unique opportunity to participate in a realistic working environment at our on site travel shop.

Course content

Areas of study will include subjects such as UK and Worldwide travel and tourism destinations, customer service, promotions and sales in travel and tourism. Further units of study could include: special interest tourism, airfares and ticketing, arranging business travel, cruises, conference and events, holiday park host and ski chalet hosts. As the course is designed to prepare students for industry we encourage high standards of personal presentation therefore travel and tourism students are expected to adhere to a prescribed dress code.

Entry requirements


A minimum of 5 A*-C/ 4-9 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English


By realistic integrated vocational assignments, internally and externally assessed.

Further information

There are opportunities to undertake work experience in a fully operational Travel Shop. Students are encouraged to organise and participate in exciting residentials and visits to a variety of local attractions and tourism facilities, these excursions are designed to enhance the educational experience.

    • Our Parson's Walk Centre houses a wide range of vocational courses and provides a unique and exciting atmosphere.

      The Centre features the award winning Wheel restaurant, together with other outstanding facilities that provide hands on work experience including the Image Centre, Florist Shop and Travel Shop.

      In addition, our classrooms offer a comfortable and professional working environment which is exemplified by our £20,000 state-of-the-art Apple Mac suite.

      This Centre also houses the College's largest Learning Resource Centre to provide help and support to all students in the use of the library and IT facilities. Our dedicated team of staff are on hand to provide assistance with electronic books and databases, information skills and one-to-one sessions. Laptops, iPads and Samsung tablets are just a selection of the range of facilities available.

      This Centre is completed with our Employment Services team who are here to offer you a personal information, advice and guidance session to identify areas of development and agree goals to set you on your path to gaining employment.
