Graphic Design Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Wigan & Leigh College

Course description

This exciting course will develop your interest in how information and images are used to promote a product or service. You will acquire the skills and knowledge needed for a career in the Visual Communications industry as a graphic designer.

Course content

The Diploma will develop your skills in graphic design studies (the communication of information using type and images), digital and illustration techniques, drawing/visual studies and the history of graphics and design. During the course you will develop a personal portfolio of work, which you will need to help you pursue your chosen career pathway. Many of the assignments are vocational and some involve real clients. You will study life drawing in both years. You will produce an exciting range of practical work, both hand rendered and digital.

Entry requirements

GCSE TARIFF

A minimum of 5 A*-C/ 9-4 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English and an art related subject. Students will need to present a portfolio of work

Assessment

Work is project based and is assessed throughout the course. A range of methods are used including external projects. You are encouraged to evaluate your own progress using your own initiative and through tutorials.

You can progress on to HE Graphic Design at our University Centre. The majority of our students are successful in their first choice university level course.

You will work with experienced professionals who have a history of success helping students achieve high grades. You will have an opportunity to go on foreign trips, recent trips have included Barcelona and Venice. Students are expected to provide basic essential materials/equipment. Specialist materials are provided.
