Plastering Level 1 Diploma at Wigan & Leigh College

Course description

This course suits those considering entering the building industry who would like to learn plastering.

Course content

The course consists of practical tasks with theoretical study. Students learn the underpinning knowledge to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Plastering. A Diploma can be upgraded to a full-apprenticeship as and when employment is gained. Learners will carry out safe working practices in construction, use information, quantities and communicate with others, learn building methods and construction technology, prepare background surfaces and plaster materials, apply plaster materials to internal backgrounds and produce components from moulds.

Entry requirements


A minimum of 5 A*-E/F / 9-2 GCSE subjects or equivalent


Assessment is via practical skills and end of unit online tests. There is also an externally set theory test at the end of the course.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto a full-time Level 2 Diploma in Plastering, Construction or gain employment through an apprenticeship.

Further information

During the induction period of the course, students will be encouraged to develop skills in improving their ability to learn. Additional support and monitoring will be a significant factor in the course.

    • The College's Pagefield Centre is a purpose built facility to educate students, apprentices and tradespeople of the future.

      This state-of-the-art facility offers a range of Courses in Construction Crafts and Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering.

      Pagefield Centre is currently receiving a £1.4m development in top of the range facilities to add to its already impressive learning environment.

      The turning and milling workshops will soon have new and upgraded equipment, which will include the latest technology in fabrication and welding.

      There will also be a plasma cutting bed and a new thermodynamic and fluid mechanic laboratory.

      To complement this state of the art equipment, students will have access to the latest finite element analysis software, CAD / CAM, hydraulics and pneumatics software, enabling them to experience learning in a high-spec environment.
