Course description

Songwriting is one of the most lucrative areas of the music industry. Whether it’s a big hit, or a piece of music for adverts or film, songwriters can earn big bucks. This course gives you the inside on how to get into the world of songs, licensing and publishing.

Course content

MUSICIANSHIP You will delve into the building blocks of music from rhythms and melodies to chords, scales and harmony.

WRITE & ARRANGE SONGS Develop your songwriting and composing skills while also arranging the works of other artists.

REPERTOIRE DEVELOPMENT Create a portfolio of songs and compositions and get these recorded using producers and musicians.

DEVELOP BUSINESS SKILLS Get the skills to promote yourself and your skills within the industry.

Entry requirements

We value your creative passion and skills above all else. However, you will need to demonstrate that you are able to work at Level 3 (A Level standard) and we will take your actual, or predicted, grades into account.

Course work.

FREE for 16-18s.

Future opportunities

You will achieve a Level 3 RSL Music Practitioners Extended Diploma which can lead on to a creative degree, or our Artist Development course. Completion of both years of the course can generate up to 168 UCAS points, or the equivalent of three A* grades at A Level. You may also go straight into employment in the creative industries.
