PHYSICS AS/A2 (AQA) at Royds School
Course description
Physics is the study of our physical world and everything within it from sub atomic particles to entire galaxies. Physicists observe our universe and use mathematics to draw conclusions from evidence gathered.
Course content
The AS and A Level course consists of 8 core topics:
- measurements and their errors
- particles and radiation
- waves
- mechanics and materials
- electricity
- further mechanics and thermal physics
- fields and their consequences
- nuclear physics
Entry requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above. (Physics/Science at 6, Mathematics 5 and English at 4).
Assessment
AS Physics is examined by 2 module examinations (paper 1 & 2) worth 50% each. As well as theoretical knowledge, paper 2 also assesses a candidate's practical skills.
A2 Physics is examined by 3 module examinations (paper 1, 2 and 3) worth approximately 34% each. Paper 1 and 2 are a mixture of long to short answer questions and multiple choice questions. Paper 3 assesses practical skills.
