Level 3 Access to Higher Education – Social Science (Law) at Henley College Coventry

Course description

This course is for learners who are 18 and over

The Access to Higher Education course prepares you to study at university. It is designed for those who have left school without the usual qualifications such as A Levels and is also widely recognised by employers.

The hours of study consist of 12 mandatory class contact hours per week and you will also need to commit to self study outside of class times.

You will study a range of modules that will make up 45 credits.

In addition to Psychology and Sociology units you will cover units around criminology such as:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Civil and Criminal Law
  • Family Law
  • Criminal Law and Procedures
  • Negligence

In addition to the 45 credits a further 15 credits will be gained from skills for learning which includes preparing for a written assignment, preparing for a higher education admission interview and progressing to higher education.
You will be assessed via a range of methods including essays, reports, presentations, projects and examinations.

Upon successful completion of the course, you can progress to university to study subjects such as Law, Social Work, Sociology and Psychology. Following the successful completion of a relevant degree learners could follow a career as a Lawyer or Social Worker.

Entry requirements

You need to show that you have sufficient skills in English and maths, which means satisfying one of the following requirements:

CSE English grade C, level 2 or equivalent
GCSE Maths grade D, level 1 or equivalent
If the above criteria cannot be met you will be asked to complete a screening test at interview to determine the appropriate level plus you will also need to attend an Access interview, at which they should be able to discuss entry requirements for courses to which they would like to apply after the Access course.
