Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care at Henley College Coventry

Course description

If you are thinking of a career in social work, nursing or residential care this course will enable you to develop your knowledge and practical skills required to work in the health and social care sector,and to gain entry to Higher Education.

You will study :

  • Equality, diversity and rights
  • Health, safety and security
  • Development through the life stages
  • Psychological perspectives for health and social care
  • Personal and professional development
  • Values and planning in social care
  • Dealing with challenging behaviour
  • Caring for children and young people

Plus nine other units from the optional list as well as nationally recognised Functional Skills qualifications.

This is a practical, work-related course. There will be talks organised by visiting speakers including registered nurses, social workers, care support workers and voluntary service workers. Work placements are also organised to provide you with an opportunity to observe and gain experience in a variety of care environments such as day centres, nursing and residential centres, as well as working with people with a variety of care needs.

You will be assessed by assignments, projects, individual and group presentations, case studies and observations.

After completing the course you can progress to higher-level qualifications or, progress to employment in social work or nursing-related establishments. Please note: you will need a clear DBS enhanced disclosure in order to take the course.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs grade C or above, including English language and maths and/or Science or a level 2 Diploma with overall Merit profile in a relevant subject.
