Course description

This bespoke educational programme provides you with a platform to prepare for a professional rugby career through the guidance of Coventry College an RFU Accredited College and Wasps Academy.

You will be studying key areas, including:

  • Sports development
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Physiology of fitness
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Assessing risk in sport
  • Sports development
  • Fitness testing for sport and exercise
  • Practical team sport
  • Sports coaching
  • Analysis of sports performance
  • Leadership in sport
  • Sports psychology and nutrition
  • Work experience

English and Maths functional skills qualifications. Additional qualifications IRB Rugby Ready and scrum factory qualification.

The study programme incorporates weekly training sessions which includes strength and conditioning training, game analysis, fitness testing and weekly fixtures in the AoC Sports Premier League, including cup and 7s competitions.
As part of your study programme you will get the opportunity to develop your work experience and employability skills.

If you are intending to progress to University after college please note that the majority of Universities will expect a grade C English and maths GCSE and you will need to consider this when applying for a level three course. Coventry College offers English and maths GCSE retakes with specific entry requirements.

This course provides an educational and player pathway for talented rugby players to progress to Wasps Academy and potentially the Wasps first team. You can also progress to higher education study programmes.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade A-C to include at least one grade C in maths or English and one additional grade C from either English, maths ,Science or PE, or a level 2 relevant qualification (overall merit profile) and full level two maths or English. You must be willing to take part in a range of practical sport and exercise sessions.
