Fashion and Textiles at The Regis School

Course description

If you have a passion for Fashion this is the A Level for you. The qualification is recognised by all universities and for any course, many of our students go on to study Fashion, but others have gone on to Law, Media Studies, Nursing, English Literature and many of our students have gone on to Primary Teaching.

Course content

AS - In the AS course you will learn about fibres, fabrics and components, fashion designers and design movements. The coursework consists of one design project. A choice of briefs will be available for you to choose from or you can write one yourself if you have a particular interest.

A2 - specific information is not available yet as we are starting new specifications in Sept 2017

Entry requirements

Grade B or above in Textiles and Grade C in English

Assessment

Year 12

Unit 1 – Materials, Components and Applications

2 Hour written paper – 25% of A Level

Unit 2 – Learning through Designing and Making

Coursework – Approximately 35 hours – 25% of A Level

Future opportunities

There are many jobs in Fashion not just designing, these include Fashion Marketing and buying, Journalism, Styling, Promotion, Textile Design, Costume design for films and TV, Teaching to name a few. Many of our students use the excellent grades from their Textiles to get into University. Past students have gone to Herriot Watt in Scotland, De Montfort in Leicester, London, Southampton, Bournemouth, Epsom and Warwick.

One of our former students is currently making dresses for Strictly Come Dancing, another is a garment technologist for Marks and Spencer, another is chief buyer for Animal. Several students now have managerial roles at Rolls Royce. Many of our ex-students are currently teaching in local primary schools.
