Performing Arts (extended diploma) at The Regis School

Course description

This bespoke course allows you to study and develop high levels of skills in the creation and performance of drama, dance or a combination of both and will prepare you for a wide range of performing arts-based university and specialist college courses. You will be able to work on substantial pieces of performance work which you will perform in a range of venues to a range of audiences. You will also have the opportunity to undertake work experience in a professional performing arts venue and experience the wealth of opportunities that a performing arts background can offer.

Course content

You will need to complete the following core compulsory units. In addition, you will complete units which will be selected and agreed with your teacher to ensure that you are able to use specialist skills in either acting or dance. Over the duration of the course, you will be able to specialise in either dance or acting, or take a combination of both pathways.

  • Performance workshop,
  • Performing arts business,
  • Historical context of performance,
  • Rehearsing for performance,
  • Performing to an audience
  • You will also have the opportunity to undertake work experience in a professional setting for one of your units.

Entry requirements

C or above in dance or drama at GCSE level OR an audition with the Performing Arts teachers.


This course involves constant assessment of coursework and performance work which are both internally and externally assessed.

Future opportunities

This course is the equivalent to three A Levels. The high levels of practical and performance work set up students for university auditions; practical auditions are usually compulsory for any performing arts courses in higher education, including dance, drama, performing arts and music theatre courses.
