Pathway Plus at The Hayesbrook School

Course description

This programme is suitable for students keen to learn about the world of work alongside some of the vocational qualifications on offer at Hayesbrook. It may suit students who have a clear idea of what they want to do as a career or those who are undecided. Students choose two or three vocational subjects, and this is supported via either a work placement or a regular weekly one day per week work placement.

Sports students are also encouraged to apply for FA level 1 coaching which is delivered on site by FA coaches.

Course content

Students are given direction to find placements and may choose how to fit this voluntary, unpaid activity around their timetabled lessons in accordance with employers’ needs.

There is an option of retaking Maths or English GCSE alongside this pathway.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are 5 4+ GCSEs including English and Maths. However, Grade 3 in Maths or English may be accepted, at the discretion of the Principal, if students are committed to resitting these exams, and have a special aptitude for certain Level 3 courses.

Students are required to maintain a work experience log and reflect on their experiences.

Financial information

Students will  be expected  to pay travel expenses to their work placements and buy any special clothing or equipment needed. In some cases employers may assist with costs.

There is also a very reasonable cost to families for the FA level 1 coaching qualification.

Future opportunities

Students will leave at the end of the two year sixth form with a range of qualifications and work experience.
