Course content

Unit 1—UK Politics:

Do we live in a democratic country?

Is our election system fair?

What impact does the media have on UK politics?

What do political parties believe in?

Unit 2—UK Government:

What is the role of the Prime Minister?

Will Brexit be good or bad for the UK?

What are the functions of the House of Parliament / the House of lords?

Future Progression: Gaining an A Level in Government and Politics is excellent for careers in journalism, teaching, business, the law, the media and politics. You will develop skills in essay writing, arguing your points both verbally and on paper, analysing national and international events, and questioning how and why events happen. This will prepare you for a raft of University courses, improve your thinking and analytical skills, and give you a life long interest in current affairs.

Unit 2 - UK Government:

A2 Assessment: Three Written papers

Paper 1—UK Politics 2 hours (33%)

Paper 2—UK Government 2 hours (33%)

Level 4(minimum) in English, and a Level 4 in a Humanities subject (History, RE, Geography)
