Financial Studies Certificate at Cedars Upper School

Course description

The Certificate in Financial Studies. Students will gain an appreciation of why money is important through focusing on what money is; attitudes to it; and how it can affect life choices. They will gain the ability to plan and manage their financial needs in the medium and long term, with particular reference to the importance of the need to budget for future aspirations and life events. The Diploma in Financial Studies. Unit 1 highlights the importance of financial capability in meeting immediate and short-term financial needs. Unit 2 highlights the importance of planning for the medium- and long-term financial needs, with particularly preference to the importance of the need to budget for future aspirations and life events.

Course content

Students will find this qualification useful whether to help manage their personal finances or to pursue a career in finance. Students will consider individual needs, wants and aspirations as they progress through their personal life cycle and the role that financial services can play in assisting life planning. It highlights the importance of money and introduces them to the financial services industry.

Entry requirements

Students should have a minimum of a grade 4 in Maths and English Language or Literature.


There are 2 units in both the Certificate and the Diploma, each consisting of two papers. The first paper is a multiple choice test and the second paper is a written paper.
Each unit must be passed to progress to the next unit. (e.g. Unit 1 must be passed before move forward to Unit 2)

Financial information

There are no additional costs involved but, because of the high cost of this course to the school, should a student need to withdraw following registration then they will have to reimburse the school the cost of the course; currently £120

Future opportunities

The financially related content of this qualification serves as an excellent grounding for undergraduate study within finance and business-related disciplines, with many students going on to study accounting, business, finance and banking. The skills developed and enhanced during the course provide valuable study skills appropriate for these disciplines and others, and students have pursued a wide range of other undergraduate courses following this qualification.
