Music Technology BTEC Level 3 at Cedars Upper School

Course description

This course is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels. The programme covers a broad basis of study for the music sector with a focus on performance, personal instrumental technique development, music theory and professional practice.

Course content

The Music and Music Technology specification involves practical work and encourages the cultivation of a wide range of skills.
The unit titles are:
 Ensemble
 Music Software skills
 Professional practice in the Music Industry
 Practical Music Theory and Harmony

Entry requirements

Students should have studied Music to GCSE or have a Merit in Music Technology.


The course comprises of 4 units of which 2 are external units.

Future opportunities

If pursued further, this course can take you into the world of audio engineering, sound editing, multi-track recording and music production. Further to this, it is a keen tool for potential composers, giving them a further outlet for their musical creativity.

Further information

The course is ideally suited to musicians with a strong interest in computing. The ability to play the keyboard fluently is essential.
