Media Studies at Hall Park Academy
If you are interested in the media including print, film, radio and television then this course will give you an opportunity to study and understand the language and issues involved in the media. The course is clearly suitable for those with an interest in the arts, a creative inclination or who wish to pursue a career in the media.
At AS level you will look at the various ways media texts can be read as well as studying issues involving audience and media reception. There is a coursework element of practical/production work. The coursework element at AS level gives students the opportunity to extend their work into A2 by building on what has been learnt completing coursework at AS.
A GCSE in media studies is not essential but the minimum number of grade Cs at GCSE is required. For further information talk to your teacher or attend the Post-16 Open Evening.
You need good attendance and punctuality throughout the course to pass each module and improve your skills and be able to work independently. At the end of Year 12 you will be examined on the modules you have studied. There is a 50/50 split of coursework and exam at both AS and A2.
Besides the obvious career route in the many aspects of the media: television, radio, film, music, newspaper/magazines and advertising other career areas are accessible such as art, music, psychology, sociology, critical thinking, English, or design and technology. Media Studies is accepted as a worthwhile qualification by all universities.
