Sociology at Hall Park Academy

Course description

The course is the study of society and how it operates in its different facets.  Candidates will examine the relationships between groups, changing patterns of society and also themes and factors that affect society.

Course content

The course is divided into 4 units, 2 at AS level and 2 at A2 level.  Topics at AS include ‘Families and Households’, ‘Education’ and ‘Sociological Methods’. This is studied by following the AQA syllabus.

Entry requirements

The minimum number of grade Cs at GCSE is required. For further information talk to your teacher or attend the Post-16 Open Evening.

Assessment

You need good attendance and punctuality is very important.  You will need to be well motivated and hard working.  Examinations will take place at the end of Years 12 and 13.

Future opportunities

The subject will complement history, English and religious studies.  You will learn to identify, hypothesise, develop, interpret, analyse and evaluate.
