Hair and Beauty Therapy Level 1 at Warrington & Vale Royal College

Course description

Are you interested in the hair beauty and media make up sector? Are you interested in studying a practical subject? Do you want to do something completely different? This qualification is designed to give students a range of exciting experiences that provide a springboard to the next level of study in the hair, beauty and media make-up sector. You will be learning in The Academy which has professional hair and beauty salons and media make-up studios that give you the opportunity to practice your skills in an exciting working environment.

Course content

This qualification is made up of lots of different elements and will provide you with a rounded indroduction to the industry. Topics include;

  • Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • Presenting a professional image
  • Shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp
  • Styling hair
  • Plaiting and twisting hair
  • Using temporary colour
  • Manicure
  • Nail art
  • Skin care
  • Make-up application
  • Themed face painting
  • Assisting with reception duties.

Assessment

You will be assessed using a variety of methods including teacher assessment, project work and online tests.

Financial information

You will be expected to purchase a uniform (approximately £45) to demonstrate your professional standards. Further details will be available on application.

Future opportunities

Following successful completion of this qualification you will be able to specialise and progress onto any one of the level 2 qualifications on offer including Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or Hair and Make-up Artistry.

The college is committed to ensuring that all our students benefit from the opportunity to undertake work experience whilst at college and we will support you to obtain a placement in a relevant vocational setting, enabling you to gain a taste of a real life working environment.

Are trips and residentials organised during the course?

Various trips are organised throughout the academic year relating to all aspects of the industry. We also arrange for visiting guest speakers to come in and talk about their specialist area or their world of work.

Are there any links with industry?

This is a college based course, your learning will be enhanced by engaging with employers, you will have opportunity of workshop sessions that are provided by industry professionals throughout the academic year to ensure that you are able to experience the latest techniques first hand.

    • By Rail: Anyone travelling by train should disembark at Central Station in Warrington. Our Winwick Road Campus is around a 20 minute walk along the A49 (you will pass the Warrington Wolves RLFC stadium and the Tesco supermarket on your left).

      By Bus: Warrington & Vale Royal College is easily accessible by bus from the town centre and nearby Cheshire districts. Bus numbers* 19, 20, 21, 22 from the Warrington Bus Station to Winwick Road Campus.
