Sport Level 2 at Warrington & Vale Royal College

Course description

The Level 2 qualification in Sport aims to advance the knowledge and skills of learners that wish to understand in more detail the many aspects of sport. The development of this knowledge is invaluable when progressing onto higher qualification levels such as the Level 3 in Sport. Many of our learners having studied the qualification have progressed to higher qualification leading to gaining university places or apprenticeships within sport or fitness. The areas learners gain careers in are Sports Science, Sports Coaching, Strength & Conditioning or Teaching.

Entry requirements

For entry onto the Level 2 in Sport you must have 4 GCSEs at grade D or equivalent and you will be expected to work towards successful completion of level 2 maths and English as a part of this programme (If not already achieved at Grade c or above). In order to progress on to our level 3 courses in the following year of study, learners must successfully complete these Sport and maths / English programmes.

Applicants who do not meet these entry requirements will be assessed on an individual basis by the Curriculum Director.

The qualification has a mixture of externally and internally assessed units. Over the year you will complete 12 units. There are two external online exams that assess knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology & Fitness and a further 9 internally assessed units.

Financial information

There is a cost for the Sports Department student kit. The cost has been considered and kept as low as possible with only a minimum ‘Sports package’ required to be purchased. Assistance with the funding of the kit can be explored at learner services.

If learners are selected to take part in the ‘European Work Placement’ a £100 behaviour bond is required and on successful completion of meeting the behaviour standards this will be refunded.

Future opportunities

After your year completing the NQF Level 2 Extended Certificate learners can progress onto either the Level 3 Sport or Level 3 Sports Science qualification or explore potential apprenticeships in Sport, Leisure or Fitness.
