Accounting A Level at Warrington & Vale Royal College

Course description

If you are interested in a career in accountancy, business or management, then this is an excellent qualification. It is often studied together with business studies, but can be taken with any combination of arts or science A Levels.

Course content

This course equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to assess the financial performance of business organisations. In the first year, you will take units introducing you to financial and management accounting and in the second year a more in depth study of company accounts and management is undertaken.

As part of the study programme, we will offer a range of technical electives which will complement the pathway you are on. They will provide you with a range of skills and will be very relevant for either your higher education application and/or your future career.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement for progression onto an A Level pathway is at least five grade 5s at GCSE, including English.

We would expect students looking to study an accounting A Level to have at least a grade 5 in maths.

We will look at each application individually and flexibly and will discuss your choice of courses.


This is an academic course following a two year linear A Level, with terminal exams.

Will I complete work placements?

You will have the opportunity to undertake an appropriate work experience or internship. This will give you a real understanding of the world of work or career you are considering and will undoubtedly give you a competitive edge in any application or interviews. This will take place for most students in a block placement in June/July of Year 12.

Are trips and residentials organised during the course?

Trips and/or enrichment activities will take place on a Wednesday each week.

    • By Rail: Anyone travelling by train should disembark at Central Station in Warrington. Our Winwick Road Campus is around a 20 minute walk along the A49 (you will pass the Warrington Wolves RLFC stadium and the Tesco supermarket on your left).

      By Bus: Warrington & Vale Royal College is easily accessible by bus from the town centre and nearby Cheshire districts. Bus numbers* 19, 20, 21, 22 from the Warrington Bus Station to Winwick Road Campus.
