Biology A Level at Warrington & Vale Royal College
If you are interested in pursuing a career within the science industry or a health related industry, then this course is for you.
The A Level course builds on and develops the concepts and skills from the GCSE science qualification and its content is very relevant for an understanding of key scientific issues and debates of the 21st Century. You will study topics like biological molecules, cells, organisms, genetics, energy transfer, evolution, ecosystems and gene technology.
The minimum requirement for progression onto an A Level pathway is at least five grade 5s at GCSE, including English.
We would expect students looking to study a biology A Level to have at least a grade 5 in biology or a grade 5 in combined science plus a grade 5 qualification in either physics or chemistry. You must have also achieved a grade 5 or above in maths.
We will look at each application individually and flexibly and will discuss your choice of courses.
This is an academic course following a two year linear A Level, with terminal exams.
You can progress onto further study at university, gain an apprenticeship or go into employment.
Career options you might consider are;
- Conservation officer
- Biology teacher.
Will I complete work placements?
You will have the opportunity to undertake an appropriate work experience or internship. This will give you a real understanding of the world of work or career you are considering and will undoubtedly give you a competitive edge in any application or interviews. This will take place for most students in a block placement in June/July of Year 12.Are trips and residentials organised during the course?
