Mathematics AS at High Storrs

Course description

Edexcel AS Level Mathematics

This is a two year course and is equivalent to 40% of an A Level.

This course will need to be studied alongside three or four additional A Levels


Course content

The AS course is ideal for students who have achieved a Grade 6 and want to improve their mathematics.

Topics covered include: proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, integration and vectors

In addition to the pure topics, there are sections of the course covering applied mathematics, both Statistics and Mechanics.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five Grade 9 - 4 / A*-C at GCSE. This MUST include at least a Grade 4 / Grade C in English Language


Grade 6 / B in Mathematics

Paper 2 - 37.5%

  •  Written paper
  •  Applied content

Future opportunities

Mathematics is well-respected by many employers and is an excellent subject for entry into higher education.

Mathematics combines well with a range of A Level courses, particularly Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Economics. It also complements the study of Product Design and Psychology.

Students that have studied mathematics are in a fortunate position of having a fantastic choice of career. This course leads directly into the sciences, engineering, computer sciences and, of course, mathematics degrees.
