Spanish AS Level at Graveney School

Course description

The course is topic based and deals with the following
broad issues:
Changes in Spanish society: family, the world of work, the impact of tourism on Spain
Artistic culture (through music and festivals and traditions) and political and artistic culture (through media)
The opportunity to study a work of literature and/or film
In addition, at A Level, you will have the opportunity to study:
Spain as a multi-cultural society, the positive impact of immigration and integration.
Dictatorship under Franco and the transition to democracy.
A second work of literature and/or film.

Assessment

AS (Year 12)
Listening, Reading and Translation into English (1 hour 45 mins)
Written Response to Works and Translation into Spanish (1 hour 40 mins)
Speaking Exam (12-15 mins)
A Level (Year 13)
Listening, Reading and Translation into English (2 hours)
Written Response to Works and Translation into Spanish (2 hours 40 mins)
Speaking Exam (16-18 mins)

Future opportunities

Spanish is now almost as widely spoken as English in the world. As companies are looking to recruit young people with language skills, Spanish will clearly give you an advantage.
