Level 2 Apprenticeship in Site Carpentry at MidKent College

Course description

Earn while you learn on an apprenticeship with the College! This nationally recognised standard will provide you with the skills, experience and knowledge you need to progress in your chosen career. Your apprenticeship framework will include a combination of on-the-job training, studying for your qualification at College and maths, English and possibly ICT depending on the framework and any prior GCSEs.Carpenters are involved with a variety of construction projects, being adapt to a range of working environments. A Site Carpentry apprenticeship offers a range of units that will give you the knowledge you need to work effectively on-site as a carpenter.These units include:> Efficiency in the workplace> Health and Safety> Loading and unloading materials> Preparing materials > Calculations of materials> Carrying out carpentry practical work

Entry requirements

Students need to have the following:> Employment within the sector with a contract of employment for at least 30 hours per week> A good standard of education with 5 GCSEs at A-D / 9-3 including maths and English (or equivalent)> Satisfactory completion of the college initial assessment

Future opportunities

You'll become a fully qualified tradesperson with the ability to carry out Site Carpentry on recognised building projects. If you successfully complete your level 2 course you will have the opportunity to progress on the level 3 at the College.

    • Set in the Oakwood Park complex, MidKent College's Maidstone Campus provides a pleasant learning environment for students. The site houses a range of quality workshops – including those for Bricklaying, Carpentry, Motor Vehicle and Welding – as well as a large learning resource centre, refectory and welcoming social zone.

      In 2012 major redevelopment work costing a total of £25 million started at the Maidstone Campus, with new state-of-the-art facilities expected to be open by December 2013.

      As part of the rebuild MidKent College has purchased the University for the Creative Arts' Maidstone campus, which is also based at Oakwood Park and now houses the majority of the College's higher education courses.
