Course description

My Traineeship will give you a chance to:

  • Drugs and alcohol 
  • Debt and money advice
  • Welfare rights
  • Credit union
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Job search techniques
  • First aid (North West Ambulance)

Course content

By attending this programme, we aim for young people to gain the necessary skills to move into paid work or an apprenticeship.

My Traineeship consists of:

  • Each programme will run approximately for 12 to 16 weeks.
  • Attending classroom based session two days a week from 9.30am to 3.30pm to develop employability and functional skills, where required.
  • A work experience placement - two days a week; start and end time to be stipulated by host work experience manager.
  • A two week work based project. 

Entry requirements

My Traineeship is aimed at Salford residents aged between 16 and 24 that are currently not in work or education; are focused on work or the prospect of it; and have not yet achieved a level 3 qualification.

My Traineeship is designed to help young people gain the knowledge, skills and experience needed to get an apprenticeship or job. They are targeted at young people who are close to being work ready but need a little more help and support.

Assessment is on-going through My Traineeship.

Financial information

  • Candidates not currently claiming benefits will be able to access a training allowance of up to £40 per week; in addition to the 16 to 19 bursary where eligible (subject to satisfactory attendance).
  • Whilst on this programme; you may be entitled to receive four bus passes per week; only if you live approx one mile away from the Beacon Centre, and/or your placement is one mile away from your home address.
  • You also have the chance to receive up to £100 in LOVE2SHOP vouchers; this is based on a 95% attendance.
  • If you are claiming any out-of-work benefit, eg Jobseeker's Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment Support Allowance, or Income Support and are offered a traineeship you are advised to inform your Jobcentre Plus adviser to check if your benefits will be affected should you undertake a traineeship.

Future opportunities

Once you finish the traineeship and you are still looking for employment, we will support you by:

  • Referring you to Salford Employment and Recruitment City Hub (SEARCH)
  • Referring you to other employers
  • Sending you job and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Helping you prepare for interviews

Young people who have completed the traineeship will be given priority for apprenticeship vacancies offered by the council.
