Tourism A Level at Exmouth Community College

Course description

Are you interested in learning about a huge and global industry? In this course you develop personal and communication skills. The course builds on the previous successful and popular A level in Travel & Tourism and is its replacement (in line with changes to other Post 16 courses). The course places great emphasis on practical study trips and visits. In the past a residential trip to London organised by the students has proved popular.

Course content

The Level 3 tourism course will cover a number of units over the two years including:

  • Exploring UK Tourism. This will cover types of tourism, the appeal of the UK, employment opportunities, marketing and managing destinations.
  • The Worldwide Tourism unit looks at both long and short haul destinations, the appeal, as well as threats and opportunities.
  • The Dynamic Tourism Industry unit includes the impact of technology, managing tourism impacts and meeting the needs of customers.

The Event and Itinerary unit looks at planning and organising an event. In the past students have organised a London residential trip and have taken full responsibility for budgeting, transport, accommodation and an itinerary of places to visit. This gives a chance to put into practice skills you have learnt during the course.
