Art and Design A Level at Wheatley Park School

Course description

You will be able to study artists on the themes of the environment, the figure and others that you might wish to explore. Your personal study work will follow a theme of your choice based on a given starting point, including a written ‘visual journal’ or essay of 1000 words.

You will take an externally set exam, which is an extended practical project. This is based on your choice from  a wide range of starting points (set by the exam board)  to explore through a range of media.

Entry requirements

The basic entry requirement for Level 3 courses in Wheatley Park Sixth Form is to complete 8 GCSEs or equivalent, including a minimum of grade 4 in five subjects which must include English and Mathematics.


A Level (Designed to be taken over two years)

  • Component 1: Personal investigation  (60% of A Level)
  • Component 2: Externally set assignment  (Preparatory period + 15 hours supervised time / 40% of A Level)
