A level Economics at Garforth Academy

Course description

A level Economics is about applying economic theory to support analysis of current economic problems and issues, and encourage students to appreciate the interrelationships between microeconomics (economics in particular markets e.g. housing, car markets) and macroeconomics (the overall economy that government policy is based on e.g. unemployment, national debt etc. We will develop engaging and up-to-date content so that students can relate what they are learning to the world around them – locally, nationally and globally.

Many A Level students go on to study economics/Business at University as well as Economics, Philosophy and Politics (PPI). Economists are employed in a variety of settings in both the public and private sectors. The largest employer of economists is the Civil Service through the GES. The Bank of England also provides vacancies through their graduate programme - see Bank of England Careers.

Economics graduates also find employment in areas such as:

  • banks (high street and city);

  • charitable and not-for-profit organisations;

  • consultancies;

  • insurance and accountancy firms;

  • government departments and think tanks
