Physical Education A Level at Blenheim High School

Course description

The course is split into four separate components:

Component 1 (40%), is concerned with three distinct theoretical units of Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology and Applied Movement Analysis.

Component 2 (30%), is concerned with a further three theoretical units of Skill Acquisition, Sports Psychology and Sport and Society.

Component 3 (15%), tests the practical performance and skills of the student as a player or coach.

Component 4 (15%), is a classroom based coursework element which includes a performance analysis of you in your sport and personal development programme aimed at improving your ability in your sport.

Assessment

The course is assessed both externally and internally.

Future opportunities

Studying Physical Education at A level will prepare you for a multitude of courses at university or for moving into the world of work. Due to the varied nature of the course there are very few fields of study or work that you won’t be able to access. This is because throughout the course you will develop highly transferable skills such as becoming skilled in making decisions, solving problems, good communication skills, and familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative data.

If you are looking to university, the course’s blend of scientific knowledge will allow you to access many scientific degrees either with or without a sporting focus.

Courses could include biology, sports science, sports psychology, sports technology, leisure, teaching and sports coaching amongst others and could lead to careers in those areas.

Outside of university the course could aid you in a wide range of careers including working in public sector or sporting organisations, leisure management, charities, sports development or sports coaching

Further information

As well as the potential to assist with Sixth Form sports teams and House events, there is the opportunity to assist with the development of lower school sport by assisting teachers in lessons or with extra-curricular sport.
