Health and Social Care BTEC at Tring School

Learners have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of work-related contexts within the health and social care setting. The NHS employs over 1.5 million people and social care a further 1.6 million people and this vocational course will give insight into the many fields available beyond study at school. In particular this course will enhance student understanding of service provision, values, rights, responsibilities, care settings, communication, health and wellbeing, human behaviour and practitioner roles.

This course is equivalent in size to 1 A level.


Course content

Compulsory Units:

Human Lifespan development (written exam set and marked externally)

Working in Health & Social Care (written exam set and marked externally)

Meeting Individual Health & Support Needs (assignment set and marked internally)

One optional unit from Sociological perspectives or Psychological perspectives.


Entry requirements

Grade 4 in GCSE English Language and at least a Merit grade in Level 2 BTEC Health and Social Care if it has been studied in Year 11.


4  units of which 3 are mandatory and 1 is optional.

Total number of guided learning hours is 360.
