Course content

Students devise and perform an original piece of theatre using a text extract from a play and the ideas of one practitioner as stimulus. Students submit a portfolio of verbal and written evidence. Students perform an extract from a play as well as a monologue to an external examiner. Finally, students see a live performance and study two set texts and another practitioner in preparation for an exam.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 at GCSE English Language and Literature.

A practical ability in acting is essential, as are enthusiasm for creating theatre, team working and commitment to out of hours rehearsals.

Students must have a genuine passion for seeing live performances.


Devising (40%): Creating and Executing a Live Performance.

Text in Performance (20%): Examined Performance.

Theatre Makers in Practice (40%): Written Examination.

Future opportunities

Performing, writing, directing and producing.

Technical expertise in lighting, set design, props, costume and make up.
