Latin AS/A Level at Hazelwick School

Course description

Latin builds directly on the solid foundation of GCSE developing linguistic knowledge, vocabulary & appreciation of style,& idiom.

Course content

Language skills, translation, comprehension, prose literature, verse literature

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in Latin

Assessment

Paper 1 - 33% of A level.  You translate into English 2 unseen passages of Latin - 1 prose (Livy) & 1 other verse (Ovid)

Paper 2 - 17% of A level.  Comprehension - you answer translation, comprehension & grammar questions on 1 unseen passge of Latin prise (Pliny)

Paper 3 - 25% of A Level.  Prose Literature - you answer questiions to show your understanding & appreciation of 2 prose set texts & you also write a short essay which draws upon material from 1 of the set texts & some additional literature in translation

Paper 4 - 25% of A level.  Verse Literature - you answer questions to show your understanding & appreciation of the 2 verse set texts & also write a short essay which draws upon material from 1 of the set texts & some additional literature in translation.
